Bakuchiol the structure of which is illustrated above, is a phenolic compound having a single hydroxyl group on the aromatic ring and an unsaturated hydrocarbon chain. It has been isolated from the seeds of Psoralea Corylifolia. It is an ancient medicinal plant of India and China.

Bakuchiol has anti-tumor, anti-oxidant, anti-microbial and hepato protective activities and has been utilized for skin and oral care. Bakuchiol would be a useful compound for development of anti-bacterial agents against oral pathogens and has great potential for use in food additives and mouthwash for preventing and treating dental caries.
